John Williams joined CSEA in 1963. He worked first as a Psychiatric Technician Trainee and then as a Unit Supervisor for the Camarillo State Hospital. Williams has served as a chapter treasurer, chapter president and as a representative on the Incorporation and Legislative committees in the Supervisors' Division of CSEA (now known as the Association of State Supervisors). He was sworn in to represent District B in February 2002.

District B covers San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. It includes two chapters - Chapter 10 (San Luis Obispo Area), and Chapter 31 (Ventura and Santa Barbara Area).
