New Members of the Presidents Roundtable: CSUEU and CSR
CSEA Foundation INC. raised over $14,000 dollars in memory of Yolanda Solari, the third woman President of CSEA, founder of the CSEA Foundation and supporter of the establishment of the CSU Division, now known as CSUEU. Pat Gantt, President of CSUEU gave a heart-felt speech on Yolanda’s accomplishments and dedicated the CSUEU Board of Directors meeting in her honor.
At the CSUEU Board of Directors meeting in San Diego, a motion was made to pledge $10,000 in memory of Yolanda Solari. This motion was passed unanimously by the CSUEU Board of Directors. In addition, the weekend before at the CSR convention (also meeting in San Diego) CSR Chapter 2 pledged $1,500, CSR Chapter 5 pledged $1,000 and CSR pledged $500 in memory of Yolanda Solari. In addition, Marilyn Hamilton, President of CSEA announced that CSEA has pledged $500 in honor of their previous President, Yolanda Solari.
We encourage other affiliates to continue this positive trend in supporting the CSEA Foundation, in honor of Yolanda Solari. For this is the type of support that Joan Kennedy, President of the CSEA Foundation INC. encouraged at the CSEA Board of Directors meeting in October. Now that the trend of giving has been established, this will stand as a model for other “friends and affiliates” of the CSEA Foundation to donate.
The mission of the CSEA Foundation, Inc. is to promote charitable, philanthropic, benevolent and fundraising services and activities that will be used for educational, literary, hardship grants and scholarships for the public good.
The CSEA Foundation is committed to valuing the philanthropist in everyone by delivering excellent charitable services, fostering collaboration and innovation, and respecting and nurturing CSEA’s distinctive sense of community.
The CSEA Foundation graciously thanks CSUEU, CSEA, CSR organizations and Chapters for their generous donations to honor Yolanda Solari.

Our Funds are raised by YOU
The Foundation is a grassroots organization. We travel from chapter to chapter, Union Board meeting to Board meeting talking to people and spreading our fund raising message. This past year was a banner fund raising success for the CSEA Foundation. We doubled our financial goal from last year thanks to generous donations of anonymous donors, chapters fund raising efforts and corporate sponsors. These donations will provide several scholarships for 2013.
Members Taking Care of Members – 2014 Scholarship Recipients
The CSEA Foundation is a non-profit, charitable corporation created to fund scholarships to CSEA affiliate members, dependents, spouses and grandchildren (ACSS, CSEA, CSR, CSUEU, SEIU Local 1000 and UAW). This year the Foundation was able to increase the amount of the scholarships due to donations in memory of Yolanda Solari. Yolanda dedicated much of her life to fighting for the rights of CSEA state workers. She was the third woman voted to serve as CSEA President. The Foundation received over $14,500 dollars in her honor. The Foundation has moved donors from CSEA, the California State Retirees, CSR Chapters, CSR individuals and the California State University Employees Union (CSUEU) for their unprecedented donations in Yolanda's name into the CSEA Foundations Presidents Roundtable. These donations have created stable base for the Foundation. Historical note: the CSEA Foundation was created during Yolanda's Presidency in CSEA.
The Foundation has awarded six (6) $1500 scholarships to the following dependents and grandchildren from qualified CSEA affiliates; ACSS, CSR, CSUEU and SEIU Local 1000. In addition, this year the Foundation designated one scholarship for the best essay. The best essay award was won by Austin Lovell. Austin's sponsor was Howell Lovell from ACSS, Chapter 503. Austin's essay will be placed on the Foundation web site. The CSEA Foundation website will also highlight all recipients and sponsors.
